The City of Malden held its Inaugural Ceremony on Tuesday, January 2nd in the Jenkins Auditorium of Malden High School. The celebration began with newly appointed City Messenger Neal Anderson leading the delegation to the stage followed by the Malden Police and Fire Honor Guards. The Malden Girl Scouts initiated the Pledge of Allegiance, and the National Anthem was beautifully sung by Ward 5 Malden Resident Jennifer Dhanjee.

State Senator Jason Lewis, State Representatives Paul Donato, Steve Ultrino and Kate Lipper Garabedian as well as Malden’s former Mayors Ed Lucey and Richard Howard were among Mayor Christenson’s guests on stage.

As is tradition, the City Council and the School Committee retired for organization to elect a new Council President and School Committee Vice Chair. Ward 6 City Councillor Steve Winslow was elected to serve as Council President and Ward 3 School Committee Member Jennifer Spadafora was chosen to serve as the School Committee’s Vice Chair.
