[ARCHIVED] Two Malden Non-Profits Benefit from Casino Soft Opening

Mayor Christenson with recipients of Encore donation

Both the Malden YMCA and Bread of Life were extremely pleased that they were chosen by Encore Boston Harbor as two of the six non-profits to benefit from the “play days” held prior to its grand opening. That didn’t stop either from being overwhelmed by the magnitude of the support. On Tuesday, Encore Boston Harbor President Bob DeSalvio was joined by Mayor Gary Christenson in presenting checks of $111,000 to each organization. "It was amazing to see their reaction to receiving this type of gift,” said Mayor Gary Christenson. “Fundraising is so challenging for non-profit organizations. That Encore Boston Harbor chose two Malden based organizations to support is both gratifying and consistent with the partnership they have shown since first proposing the project years ago.” Director of Community Development John Tocco was on hand to also make the presentation. “Our commitment to Malden, its residents and the community is a direct result of the relationship that Mayor Christenson has worked hard to build with us over the years. Over 400 Malden residents have benefited with full-time jobs and now these two worthy organizations have as well. We look forward to continuing to work with Mayor Christenson on supporting the City in any way we can.”
