Mayor Gary Christenson and Ward 2 City Councillor Paul Condon recently wished longtime Malden resident Celia Denehy a very happy 100th birthday!
Celia was born July 7, 1923 in Boston. She has lived in the same house on Malden Street for 80 years where she and her beloved husband Robert raised their three wonderful sons, Robert, Thomas and Joseph. Celia and Robert had many loving years together before he sadly passed away. Claire spent many years working at Gilchrist’s Department Store as well as in the Navy Yard as a welder during World War II. She also spent much time giving back to the community, volunteering for St. Rocco’s Festival, the Bread of Life and the Northshore Theater. Celia very much enjoys knitting and spending time with her children, nine grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.
When the Mayor asked Celia what her secret was for living such a long and healthy life, she responded that “getting along with everyone” was her secret.
