[ARCHIVED] Bicycle Theft Prevention

Bicycle Theft

The Malden Police Department would like to work with the community to recover stolen bicycles.  By documenting and retaining the serial number to your bicycle, you can provide valuable information to the police.  This enables police officers to be able to identify stolen bicycles when they are in possession of a person who is not the rightful owner.

Invest in a quality bike lock, preferably a U-Lock.  You should safeguard your bicycle when unattended by using a heavy-duty locking device and securing your bicycle through both wheels and around the frame to an immovable object.  Cables and chains are easily defeated.

Keep a record of the bicycle's serial number, make, model, and color.  Engrave your name on the bicycle.  Take photos of your bicycle and the serial number.

Park at a bicycle rack if possible in a well lit area.

If you bicycle is stolen, immediately contact MPD at 781-322-1212.
