[ARCHIVED] Lieutenant Powell Receives Award

Powell Award

Detective Lieutenant Michael Powell received a Black Excellence Award presented by the Massachusetts Black & Latino Legislative Caucus.

After honorably serving his country as a member of the US Army, Michael Powell chose to continue on his path of service as a member of the Malden Police Department.  He has served with distinction and has risen up through the ranks becoming the first African-American sergeant and lieutenant in department history.  He serves as a role model and mentor.  Malden is the most diverse city in the Commonwealth with 70 languages spoken at the high school.  Lt. Powell currently serves in the detective division.  He is also the Civil Rights investigator for the police department.  Lt. Powell serves as a shining example to all as to what can be achieved through dedication, effort, and commitment and how the "content of someone's character" should and does matter.  Any police department in our nation should have a Lt. Powell.  Here in Malden we are blessed and fortunate that he chose to join us on our noble mission of service.
