Mayor Gary Christenson congratulated longtime Treasurer’s Office employee Elizabeth “Betty” Christie on her retirement following 48 years of service with the City of Malden! Betty has the unique distinction of being the only City employee to have worked in all four City Hall buildings which includes the temporary location at 110 Pleasant Street.
On October 15, 1973, Betty began working in the Treasurer’s Office at the old City Hall building on Main Street upon learning of the opening from a neighbor. The City Hall staff relocated to the new “state-of-the-art civic center” at 200 Pleasant Street the 1970’s. During the 2017 demolition of 200 Pleasant Street and the reconstruction of the new City Hall at 215 Pleasant Betty worked at the temporary location at 110 Pleasant Street.
Betty will always be known for the way she cheerfully welcomed and assisted residents to the Treasurer’s window and how she dedicated her career to providing quality customer service to Malden residents. Mayor Christenson presented Betty with a plaque that contained renderings of all four City Hall locations and thanked her for her invaluable service, commitment and contributions.
