Chamber Celebrates 130 Years!

Chamber Celebration

The Malden Chamber of Commerce celebrated its 130th Anniversary in true Victorian style on Saturday, July 24th on the lawn of the historic Malden Public Library. Founded in 1891, the Chamber of Commerce has supported the businesses and non-profits of Malden for over a century. The festivities were part of the City of Malden’s Summer Festivals 2021.

The celebration filled the lawn and Salem Street with music, games, magic, and people in costume. Prizes were awarded for the best dressed Victorians. State Representatives Steve Ultrino and Paul Donato were on hand to congratulate Chamber President Donna Denoncourt with a Citation from the Massachusetts House of Representatives while crowds of Chamber members and Malden residents roamed through with the first Malden “street museum” featuring 20 banners picturing the rich history of business in Malden.

As a tribute to our Victorian era roots, Mayor Gary Christenson attended, dressed as the Mayor of Malden in 1891, Joseph Wiggins. The Mayor was greeted by a living statue dressed as Malden’s first Mayor, entrepreneur and philanthropist, Elisha Converse.

The party continued at local Chamber restaurants who offered a prix fixe specials for $18.91. Joining in the celebration were 110 Grill, All Season’s Table, Dockside Restaurant & Bar, El Potro Mexican Bar and Grill, Evviva Trattoria, Exchange Street Bistro, Hugh O’Neill’s Restaurant & Pub, Mystic Station, and Pearl Street Station.

This event was made possible by the assistance and generosity of the City of Malden, the Malden Public Library, the Malden Historical Society, Mystic Valley Regional Charter School, Balloons Filled with Love, Members Plus Credit Union, Pearl Street Station, Boda Borg, Eastern Bank, Kappy’s Fine Wine and Spirits and StonehamBank.
