The Malden Cultural Council invites organizations, schools, and individuals to apply for grants that support cultural activities in the community. The application period opens on October 1, 2020. Proposals for community-oriented arts, humanities, and science programs will be due on November 16, 2020.
According to Council Co-Chairs Erga Pierrette and Mark Linehan, these grants may support a variety of projects and activities in Malden advancing the arts, humanities, and sciences -including exhibits, festivals, field trips, short-term artist residencies, performances in schools, workshops, and lectures.
The Malden Cultural Council is part of a network of 329 Local Cultural Councils (LCCs) serving every city and town in the Commonwealth. Led by municipally appointed volunteers, LCCs award over $3 million every year, supporting more than 5,000 cultural programs that include everything from field trips to lectures, festivals, and dance performances. The state legislature provides an annual appropriation to the Mass Cultural Council, a state agency, which then allocates funds to each community.
Last year, the Malden Cultural Council distributed more than $30,000 in grants. Examples of previously funded projects include: The Filipino Festival, Fellsmere Pond Lantern Walk, Malden Dance Mile, National Society of Black Engineers, and International Women’s Day Celebrations.
