Mayor Gary Christenson recently congratulated John Angelo, a lifelong Maldonian and longtime proprietor of Gabby’s Barber Shop on his retirement and commended his nearly 60 years in business. Gabby’s Barber Shop was initially located on Dartmouth Street and then later relocated to a shop on the corner of Pleasant and Florence streets. When construction of the “new” city hall building began in the 1970s at 200 Pleasant Street they moved to their current location at 252 Highland Avenue. Well known for providing exceptional barber service, Gabby’s became a much-loved presence in the Edgeworth neighborhood where people came from all over not only to get a haircut but also to have long conversations and share stories. John looks forward to spending time with his wife Carol, their four children, eight grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
