The following COVID-19 update was issued to Malden residents on Monday, March 30th, 2020 by Mayor Christenson.
Good afternoon, I’m Mayor Gary Christenson with an important update. As of today, March 30th, Malden has 59 confirmed COVID-19 cases. Our Health Department has been in contact with each affected resident and all isolation protocols are being followed. We ask everyone to continue to take responsibility and do their part to stop the spread of this virus. Health experts have repeatedly told us that it is critical to practice social distancing and limit interaction with others. That is why we have closed all Malden parks until further notice. This means our parks are closed for passive exercise, organized games, walking the track and using the equipment. This also means all fields, basketball courts, tennis courts, playgrounds, dog parks and the community gardens are closed. While our parks provide such a great benefit to our community in normal times, unfortunately they are also a place where people congregate in groups and have close physical contact - and this is exactly what we are trying to prevent. Finally, I will be hosting a live broadcast on COVID-19 with MATV, Wednesday night, April 1st at 7:00 PM. You can view this show on Comcast Channel 22, Verizon Channel 26 or on Youtube live by visiting MATV.org. At that time, I will be joined by Health Director Chris Webb and School Superintendent John Oteri. We will take questions live by calling in or by messaging the City of Malden’s Facebook account. Thank you and be safe.
