Project Updates

OSPCD manages many planning, development, and physical improvement projects throughout Malden. Below are links to ongoing projects on the City's Transparency Center.

Housing Projects

272-274 Cross Street
This project, led by The Neighborhood Developers, will add five affordable homeownership units to the site of an partially demolished home.
213 Main Street
This project, led by the Asian Community Development Corporation, will add twenty affordable rental units to the site of the former Salvation Army.
54 Eastern Ave
This project, led by Metro North Housing Corp. and Bread of Life, will add 14 deeply affordable units for people who are homeless or formerly homeless on top of a new food pantry and nonprofit office space for Bread of Life.

Plans + Studies

Broadway Corridor Land Use Study The City is developing new zoning amendments that will codify the vision and goals set in the Broadway Corridor Framework Plan. 

Physical Improvement Projects

Malden Hospital Redevelopment
The redevelopment of the Malden Hospital site provides a once-in-a-generation opportunity to acquire 6.7 acres of open space for the City of Malden.
Malden River Works Malden River Works is a community driven effort to transform the DPW yard to incorporate climate resiliency measures and a new public park along the Malden River.
Kierstead Park
The Kierstead Park Improvement Project will create a destination playground for children of all ages and abilities, and will upgrade the existing Little League baseball field.
Trafton Park
Phase II improvements include upgrades to the existing dog park, ballfield, backstop, fencing, and two tennis courts, one of which will become a 3/4 basketball court and paved play space.
FitzGerald Park
This project expands the park, taking full advantage of the available space to install climbable play equipment, painted surface play (such as hopscotch), benches, trees, and other features consistent with existing artistic themes.
Roosevelt Park
This project will upgrade the existing athletic field with a new multi-use synthetic turf field with an organic wood infill. The new park will boast a state-of-the-art athletic field with significantly improved capacity for recreation.
Devir Park
Improvements include a brand new playground with a splash pad, a community plaza, a new basketball court and a half court, accessible walking paths, and new trees.
Early Learning Center Playground
This project will build an inclusive, accessible, and modern playground that increases play opportunities, tree canopy, and safety at the ELC.
Linden Community Rink
This project will build a new community rink at the Linden School for street hockey and other court sports like futsol, pickleball, and other sports.
Malden Center for Arts & Culture The City is working to convert the old Malden District Courthouse into the Malden Center for Arts & Culture.
Patchell Park Master Plan The City of Malden is developing a Master Plan for Patchell Park that will represent the community's vision for improvements at this park. The Patchell Park Master Plan will help facilitate future improvements to the park.
