- Mayor's Advisory Committee on Walkability
In 2012, Mayor Gary Christenson commissioned an Advisory Committee on Walkability in an effort to engage Malden residents on their ideas and creative initiatives to make Malden a top walkable city in Massachusetts. Since then, the Committee has made great strides in recommending improvements to crosswalks, how to make intersections safer, suggestions for snow removal and installing signage. The goal of the group is to encourage more people to walk and to connect Malden's neighborhoods. The Committee is particularly proud of the Welcome to Malden signs located at entry points to the City and of the Way Finding Signs designed to help pedestrians easily navigate the City which are bordered with an original design by world renown artist Frank Stella, who was born in Malden.
