GREEN MALDEN FAIR Banner

On April 15th between 1-4pm Malden will conduct its first ever Green Malden Fair. Booths will help Malden residents explore ways in which they can participate in a more sustainable and green Malden.

This year's fair will be held at Pine Banks Park and will consist of many differing ways for residents to learn about cost savings for energy, eco-friendly initiatives going on in the City, special recycling events, Malden's Climate Action Plan, ways to volunteer and much more.

Climate Action Plan WorkshopWe invite residents to join in a workshop that will kick off Malden's Climate Action Plan, and share your thoughts about what Malden needs to look like thirty years from now if we're going to meet our climate goals.
Shrub Seedling GiveawayTree Warden and Cemetery Superintendent Chris Rosa will give away seedlings for residents to take away and plant on their property. (Limited while supplies last)
Lead Health Homes Rehab & Home Energy Assessment InfoFrom the Office of Strategic Planning and Community Development, Emmanuel Flarris will be on hand along with our partners from the MassSave program offering free home energy assessments as well as information about lead-safe homes.
Bike to the Sea - Bike Kitchen DemoMembers of the organization Bike to the Sea will be at the fair offering free bicycle assessments and some light repairs free of charge.  This is to promote the implementation of their new "Bike Kitchen" which will be a permanent low-cost bicycle repair facility along the Northern Strand Community Trail on Canal Street.
Blue Bikes Demo and Pass GiveawayMembers of the Office of Strategic Planning and Community Development will be there with a Blue Bike for residents to demo.  Residents can also walk away a free 30 day pass for a Blue Bikes membership.  (Limited while supplies last)
Black Earth CompostingTake advantage of Malden's newest way to reduce waste while getting some nutrient-rich compost for your garden. The City of Malden is partnering with Black Earth Composting offering residents who sign up for weekly curbside food waste composting a free bin. This is a $40 value but must be proceeded by signing up for an annual subscription. 
Complete Streets Engagement PlanThe Complete Streets Prioritization Plan is a targeted investment strategy to improve safety, mobility, and accessibility within the City of Malden. We will gather input on an initial list of potential projects and ask the community for additional locations to target for these upgrades.
Malden River WorksGet the latest information on the Malden River Works project, which will create a riverfront park behind the DPW Yard on the Malden River.
Paper Shred-cyclingFor residents who have confidential documents that they would like to recycle but want them shredded first.  Bring them down to the Green Malden Fair and take advantage of the on-site paper shredding event free of charge. 
Malden River WorksKaren Buck from Malden River Works will be present to help residents learn more about the stewardship of the Malden River including information on the exciting ways in which the Malden River is transforming into a new recreation destination for residents as well as initiatives to make the river climate resilient.
Bulk Styrofoam RecyclingBring your bulk pieces of Styrofoam to the Green Malden Fair to have them responsibly recycled. Place clean, dry Styrofoam in a sealed or tied off plastic bag to prevent them it from being broken up, soiled or becoming wet. All other Styrofoam including packing peanuts, colored foam, foam that is dirty are not accepted. (Please read the rules and guidelines for proper recycling of these materials before bring anything to the event)
EWaste RecyclingComputers, keyboards, CD Players, old mobile phones and more.  Bring them to the Green Malden Fair for recycling. Electronics need to be placed in a bin or container. Non-working electronics should be recycled to prevent lead, mercury and other toxics they contain from posing health and environmental risks after disposal.   

Please read the important rules and guidelines for proper recycling of these materials before bring anything to the event.  Also, some things such as TV's and Computer Monitors will require a fee to recycle. 
National Grid Discount RateRepresentatives from National Grid will be on hand to offer residents who qualify the ability to sign up for their discounted energy rates. 
Community Preservation CommitteeThe Community Preservation Committee (CPC) encourages community participation in projects that preserve, enhance or create green-space and strives to prevent historic monuments and buildings from ending up as landfill. Stop by the CPC table to learn more about what projects the Community Preservation Act (CPA) has funded in Malden and let us know what types of projects you’d like to see happen in Malden.
Malden Youth Garden ClubMalden High School students from the youth gardening club will be selling handmade items, creating educational activities, and spreading the word about our newest addition to the community! Any help and support for the club would be greatly appreciated as we spread and encourage youth environmental activism/leadership.
Friends of Roosevelt ParkFoRP will be on hand educating residents about their organization and environmental goals of their organization. 
Wicked Cool MysticConcerned about how hot our summers are getting? Don't know how you can help? Want to join a COOL (pun intended :) group of concerned community members to fight against climate change? Come find the Wicked Cool Mystic Team to share your thoughts and suggestions to help cool down our increasingly hotter summers in Malden! We have a survey you can take and more!


The following weekend, April 22nd is Earth Day and Malden will be celebrating Earth Day with many opportunities to clean up our great City.
