Summer Eats Serves Children during Summer Months

Thursday, July 19, 2018

Malden’s Summer Eats program is in full swing! The program is administered by the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education with the support of the Child Nutrition Outreach Program at Project Bread. Mayor Christenson, families and children joined event organizers to celebrate the program which serves to feed children ages 18 and under who rely on free or reduced-price school meals during the school year. During the summer months when school is out, these families lose access to meals and there are more than 4,500 children in Malden who rely on this service. The program strives to ensure that all children in Massachusetts have access to nutritious meals both in school and during the summer.

Malden Public Schools and the Malden YMCA together sponsor a combined 20 summer meal sites throughout Malden. Last summer, this program fed more than 800 children each day, serving nearly 29,000 meals. For more information or to locate a site near you, please visit
