The Substance Abuse Prevention Outreach Manager (SAPOM) is a grant funded employment opportunity. This position is subject to annual funding provided by a grant from the Massachusetts Department of Public Health Bureau of Substance Abuse Services. Independently performs highly responsible work of a complex and technical nature within the scope of accepted standards and grant deliverables. Exercises judgment and initiative to ensure achievement of all deliverables of public health services.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Under the direction and supervision of the Director of Public Health, in conjunction with Agents of Public Health of all participating communities, the position requires experience in data analysis, research methods, theory, and statistics. Plans, designs and implements innovative ways to reach out and educate the community to reduce all substance use with a focus on prescription drug/alcohol use/abuse. Oversee the development and refinement of a Malden Substance Abuse Prevention plan. Collaborate and provide support to Malden’s Promise and the Mystic Valley Public Health Coalition. Work long with the Malden Police Department to facilitate the ASAP program (diversion education and intervention program).Provide resource referrals to anyone in an active addiction stage and their family as needed and requested. Create and build relationships with local substance abuse treatment resources, businesses, ethnic, faith-based organizations, state and local government, and youth in Malden. Responsible for overseeing the writing and updating of the Substance Abuse Prevention grant along with other related grants. Other responsibilities will also include fiscal monitoring; program evaluation and making policy recommendations; data collection, grant writing and reporting; take leadership role for public health initiatives; creation of communication materials for the successful implementation of grant programs. Maintains confidentiality of client information. Related projects and tasks as assigned by the Director.
The SAPOM must possess a high level of proficiency with relation to database and spreadsheet applications including Access and Excel and use of Microsoft Office. The position further requires excellent communication and organizational skills and the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships as well as the ability to work and display sensitivity towards diverse groups of people.
