Special Motor Equipment Operator (SMEO)/Laborer

Works under the direction of the DPW Director, Operations Manager, Supervisors, and/or the Working Foreman. Required to operate any motor driven hydraulic equipment owned or leased by the department. Also operates snow plows, sanders, dump trucks and operates motor equipment of a lower level of difficulty. Greases, oils, cleans and performs preventative maintenance on equipment. Could oversee a crew consisting of employee’s working in a lower rank such as HMEO/Laborers & MEO/Laborers. Performs manual labor tasks and any other tasks deemed necessary. Must be available for emergency calls beyond regular working hours as needed. 

Pay Rate

Without CDL - $42,057.60 ($20.22/hour) - $47,756.80 ($22.96/hour) With CDL - $48,422.40 ($23.28) - $54,121.60 ($26.02)

Qualifications

Massachusetts Commercial Driver’s License - Class B with air brakes endorsement required. MA Hoisting Engineer License with the ability to run backhoes and front end loaders also required. Candidates should have a minimum of 1 year of experience working in roadway construction, have knowledge in performing winter operations and be able to lift fifty (50) pounds. Strong ability to communicate effectively, along with being punctual and dependable.
