The Parking Enforcement Officer ensures fair, courteous and consistent enforcement of the City of Malden parking rules and regulations and facilitates orderly and safe parking practices. The position involves patrolling the city streets regularly throughout day and evening, monitoring lot status and occupancy and issuing citations to correct and deter inappropriate parking behaviors. Vehicle license plates are keyed or scanned utilizing a hand held ticket issuance system. Also responsible for checking meters for proper functioning and reporting those that are broken, vandalized or missing
Duties include but are not limited to: patrolling streets and lots on foot and/or by car and tagging improperly parked vehicles which include those in no parking zones, at expired meters, impeding street sweeping or in violation of winter parking bans, and vehicles without permits in permitted areas. Also resolves customer complaints in accordance with policies and procedures and assists with any other related duties or special assignments and projects, as assigned. Special shift requirements, if any, will vary depending on hiring needs. If applicable, availability to work 2nd shift, 3rd shift and/or week-ends and holiday may be required.
$19.38 per hour
High School graduate or equivalent. A valid, unrestricted drivers’ license and clean driving record is required. Must also be able to work independently, multi-task and possess certain traits and abilities that enable the applicant to achieve expected levels of performance. Some of the most important competencies are exercising independent sound judgment and staying firm while maintaining a high level of customer service. The person in this position must be open to feedback, differing opinions and other points of view and be able to competently handle challenging and at times, emotionally charged situations. Ability to speak, read, and comprehend the English language. Multilingual desired. Preference will be given to Malden residents.
Selected candidate will need to submit to a Criminal Offenders Records Information report (CORI) background check and pre-employment drug screening. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; talk and listen.
