A reception was held on September 27th to celebrate the accomplishments of Malden’s Promise, a city-school-community coalition. This annual celebration includes a “year in review” presentation that showcases the coalition’s achievements in its work to support Malden’s youth and their families. Led by Karen Colon Hayes, Director of Human Services & Community Outreach for the City of Malden; Marie Motley, Malden Public Schools, Pathways Program and Renee Cammarata Hamilton of Cambridge Health Alliance, Malden’s Promise fosters partnerships among school, community and other stakeholders to create a support network focused on improving the lives of our young people. The coalition meets on a regular basis to collaborate, share and maximize resources.
The event was emceed by Justin Gottlieb, a Malden Promise member and Pastor of 7 Mile Road Church and was kicked off with remarks by Mayor Gary Christenson and Superintendent of Schools John Oteri who both acknowledged and thanked Malden’s Promise for its continued work in the community. The presentation highlighted several successful activities held throughout the year including panels, informational sessions, trainings and workshops on various issues. Representatives of two organizations spoke about how Malden’s Promise has helped them better respond to the needs of their clients. Most inspiring were the keynote speakers made up of students who shared their stories and ideas for improving our school environment.
