Heavy Motor Equipment Operator (HMEO)/Laborer

Works under the direct supervision of the DPW Director, Operations Manager, Supervisors and/or Working Foreman, to operate trucks with a rated capacity of more than 3 tons and up through 9 
tons,including large tractors, dump trucks, tree bucket trucks, etc. Load and unload trucks, picks up and haul materials. Perform other minor preventative maintenance on equipment. Required to operate snowplows, sanders and motor equipment of a lower level of difficulty as needed. Perform skilled duties in the care of trees; operate and maintain power saw, chain saw, brush cutter and all other tools related to required work for cutting trimming and removal of trees. May be required to perform miscellaneous manual duties in the maintenance and care of all types of city parks and fields. Performs manual labor tasks and any other tasks deemed necessary by the Director, OM, Supervisors and/or Working Foreman. Must be available for emergency calls beyond regular working hours as needed. 

Pay Rate

Without CDL - $40,560.00 ($19.50/hour) - $46,030.40 ($22.13/hour) With CDL - $46,924.80 ($22.56/hour) - $52,395.20 ($25.19/hour)


Commercial Driver’s License - Class B with air brake endorsement required. Electrical Hazards Awareness Program Certification (EHAP) and knowledge of tree bucket truck work preferred. Candidates should have a minimum of 1 year of experience working in parks and forestry, have knowledge in performing winter operations and be able to lift fifty (50) pounds. Strong ability to communicate effectively, along with being punctual and dependable.
