Eye Dotting Ceremony at the State House

Wednesday, May 23, 2018

Mayor Gary Christenson, Councilors-At-Large Debbie DeMaria and Steve Winslow along with State Representatives Steven Ultrino and Paul Donato attended an “Eye Dotting Ceremony” on May 14th at the State House in Boston. This ancient ritual originated thousands of years ago in the Chinese culture to bring them protection, good luck, health and prosperity. To empower the lion and the dragon to do their duty, they are brought to life by this sacred tradition where they are blessed before they can participate in special performances.

Sifu Mai Du, Owner of the Wah Lum Kung Fu and Tai Chi Academies of Malden and Quincy cofounded the US Dragon and Lion Dance Federation that aims to preserve the ancient arts of dragon and lion dancing cultural traditions and as sports.  Eighteen lions and one dragon were blessed at this celebration in Boston. The Eye Dotting Ceremony inaugurates a series of events culminating in a national competition to be held during Memorial Day weekend.
