Building and Grounds Custodian / Maintenance

Duties & Responsibilities

The Building and Grounds Custodian is responsible for all aspects of building upkeep and maintenance at various City buildings.  The City is looking for someone who will take pride in keeping the facilities in top condition. 

The ideal candidate will be self-motivated, able to work with little supervision, possess a strong attention to detail and possess strong general handyman skills.  Duties and responsibilities will include:

  • Light to medium cleaning and upkeep duties of all aspects of the building interior and exterior
  • General break/fix/repair duties as required by the department or Facilities Director
  • Setup and breakdown of community center as necessary
  • Upkeep of lighting system through replacement of bulbs as necessary
  • Ongoing patching and painting to maintain painted surfaces in optimal conditions
  • Snow removal of exterior grounds using snowblower, shovel, Bobcat or other means necessary
  • General landscaping upkeep
  • Other duties as assigned by the Public Facilities Director.

Pay Rate

$48,617.92

Qualifications

General knowledge of trades related to building maintenance and repair; knowledge of a variety of building maintenance procedures and techniques; knowledge of occupational hazards and safety precautions; skills in following safety practices and recognizing hazards; skill in using hand and light power tools; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with the Malden City staff along with the ability to communicate effectively. Involves moderate to heavy work in all types of weather. There is frequent need to stand, stoop, walk, lift heavy objects and perform other similar actions during the course of the workday. A high school diploma or GED and one (1) year building maintenance experience or any equivalent combination of training and experience is required. A valid driver’s license is also required.

Additional Information

The candidate selected must be able to work flexible hours including nights and weekends as circumstances dictate. In addition the candidate should be available to respond to emergencies on a 24 hour basis as needed. This position will require working hours Monday through Friday from 2:00pm – 10:00pm.
